Almost is not a 9 I can take to bed

Retail

23:40. The daily bar on that US name was still an 8. Pre-market chatter was already calling it a 9. I put the phone in the kitchen. It did not help.

Almost means the stretch reached 8 and has not confirmed 9. That is the whole poem. I still catch myself writing “tomorrow’s 9” in the notes app, then deleting it because I have watched bar 9 fail and take the furniture with it.

US after-hours can paint a fantasy close. The cash 9, if it happens, waits for the cash close. I have a scar from treating 19:10 prints as the daily bar in 2025. The next morning the official close was nowhere near.

What I do, when I remember to be an adult: leave the Almost row alone. Do not add the name to the eight at midnight. Do not text the group. If 9 prints after the close, the tape will have it. If it does not, I get to sleep without a eulogy for 1–8.

The ninth is a close, not a feeling I had at 23:40.
