16:00 in Hong Kong is not 16:00 in New York
I used to refresh at 16:05 HKT and feel cheated that AAPL had no 9. AAPL had not closed. Some days it had not even opened.
16:04 HKT — HK cash is in. US cash is not.
0700.HK can finish a high-9 on a Tuesday afternoon while NVDA is still in pre-market, or still in yesterday. The word “today” is doing too much work.
I keep a stupid three-line note on the phone:
- 15:00 CST — A-share daily 9s may exist.
- 16:00 HKT — HK daily 9s may exist.
- 16:00 ET — US daily 9s may exist. Not 21:30 HKT “because the futures moved.”
NineRadar’s tape is after the close of the venue you are looking at. It is not a simultaneous world scoreboard. If I open the US column at tea time in Shanghai, I am looking at yesterday, or at nothing. That is not a scan failure.
Half-day HK sessions and US early closes shuffle this. I stopped arguing with the clock. I argue with whether the cash bar is in.
