The clocks do not apologize for overlapping
The whiteboard used to say TODAY in one column. I split it. People complained. Then they stopped asking why HK 9s appeared before lunch in New York.
CST 15:00 can land a finished A-share 9 while HK still has an hour and US cash has not opened. If you dump those names into a Slack called #today, you will lie to the New York person by accident.
- 15:00 CST — A-share daily tape may exist.
- 16:00 HKT — HK daily tape may exist. Half-days: check the exchange calendar before you shame the intern.
- 16:00 ET — US daily tape may exist. Not 20:00 HKT. Not when the first print after lunch in California hits your phone.
I run the A-share list at 15:10, HK at 16:10, US the next morning unless Asia desk is covering. Three passes. One coffee too many. Still cheaper than a blended “Asia 9” that never existed.
Futures and FX do not get a column on this board. Different product, different night. I have to say this every quarter when someone tries to be helpful.
